Upcoming Club Events
The Volvo Club of BC hosts a number of annual events. In mid June, members
participate in a Spring weekend drive through some destination through southern
BC. A large contingent on Vancouver Island hosts several drive or display
events through the summer months. The Cate's Park Picnic is our annual
end-of-the-summer event and, thanks to our organizing committee, normally
features warm sunny weather. Our annual club technical session is normally held
each fall. Technical topics vary, but are always interesting and informative.
Details about previous technical sessions can be found on our technical index page.

JUNE 3 to 5, 2025 VOLVO CLUB SPRING DRIVE: This is an early notice for this year’s spring drive. The reason I am sending it early is we are trying a new destination, The Sunshine Coast, Powell River and Vancouver Island. For the drive to go smoothly we must make reservations soon for two ferry rides and 2 hotels. These can be cancelled if your plans change. Details of the planned drive are included below. One very important instruction is please let us know if you plan to join the drive so we will know who and how many folks will attend. This gives us the ability to contact you if there are any changes. Contact Rohan Soulsby at 604-839-4133 rohansoulsby{@}gmail.com or Gregg Morris at 778-988-6694 grmorris{@}shaw.ca if you have questions.
As you know, we are aiming for a Spring Drive on the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island. The Ferries are always busy and likewise accommodations. With that in mind it makes sense to assemble the details of the spring drive early, like now, and send it out to the Club Membership. This message will give you the information to make 2 critical ferry reservations and 2 hotel reservations. Please make them soon so no one will be disappointed closer to the time of the drive.
The drive will happen June 3-5, 2025. i.e. a Tuesday though Thursday. Making the drive a 3 day event rather than 2 gives more scope for sightseeing and less of a rush. Choosing weekdays rather than a weekend will hopefully make the roads, ferries and accommodations less busy, and the ferries a bit cheaper for the old folks among us.
Day 1, June 3, 2025 Tuesday Reserve the 9:50 am sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale (make the reservation on the BC Ferries website). We will drive north up the Sunshine coast with stops of interest and then we will take the (Sunshine Coast) Earls Cove to Saltery Bay (Powell River) ferry. No reservations are needed but still arrive at Earls Cove by 3 p.m. for the 3: 40 ferry. The next ferry is not until 6 pm..Reserve a room for June 3, 2025 at the Beach Gardens Oceanfront Resort in Powell River. Reservation details below. Rohan and Veronica Soulsby have invited us to have a Pot Luck dinner at their home on the waterfront south of Powell River. If the weather is nice we can even enjoy a campfire.
Day 2, June 4, 2025 Wednesday. Reserve the 7:55 a.m. ferry out of (Powell River) Westview to Little River (Comox) on Vancouver Island) (make the reservation on the BC Ferries website.) Hopefully, we will meet some Vancouver Island members in Comox or Courtenay, then take a scenic drive north to Campbell River and west to Gold River then back to Courtenay. Along the route we will stop at points of interest and restaurants for take out or eat in meals or snacks. Reserve a room for June 4, 2025 at the Best Western Westerly Hotel in Courtenay. Reservation details below. We will enjoy a pot luck dinner at Carl and Kelly Selden’s property near Courtenay.
Day 3. June 5, 2025 Thursday, Have a complimentary hot breakfast at the hotel. Do a little sight seeing led by Carl Selden and then make your way home or extend the holiday. There are plenty of options for either staying on Vancouver Island longer or taking ferries to the sunshine coast or the lower mainland or even the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Probably the mainlanders will take the Departure Bay Ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay. (make the reservation on the BC Ferries website)
If you have questions call Rohan at 604-839-4133 or Gregg at 778-988-6694
Please book the two critical Ferry reservations ASAP on the BC Ferries website. They can always be cancelled if your plans change.
